About retirement life ----
Define the word retirement. Don't say it is about not working. Define what retirement is, not what it isn't. You should retire to something more than retire away from something.
What do you like about retirement? What do you not like about retirement? What are you doing to increase what you like and decrease what you don't like? What small step can you take this week to do this?
About work life ----
Your work life, even if you've left it far behind, can teach you about your retirement life.
What did you like best about your work life? The social contact? Structure? Challenges? Money? Security? Self-identity? Going to lunch? Or something else?
What did you like least about your work life? Following other's rules? Not enough time in your life for other things? Living by an alarm clock? Working with people that you'd rather not see regularly? Not enough freedom? Not enough respect? Boring work? Or something else?
Look at your two answers and define them more broadly. For example if you liked going to lunch, why? Was it socializing, trying new foods, going to new places, or not having to cook? If you said your work was boring, why was it boring? Was it tedious, too much paperwork, too much people work, too repetitive, too hard, too simple?
Once you've more broadly defined the qualities of your two answers, you can apply these qualities to your retirement life. Are the qualities you liked about work life missing from your retirement life? Are the qualities you disliked too present in retirement life? What can you do to improve this, remembering there are many ways to deal with each quality that you defined? Is there some small step you can take soon to move in the right direction?
